They also faired well in 2006, according to recent revenue statistics. Four parks surpassed $100,000 in revenues, while five parks reached $50,000. One park nearly topped the $200,000 mark.
“Last year was a banner year for online reservations,” said Deb Kohls, vice president of business development at Friend. “We have long known that consumers appreciate the ability to make reservations 24 hours a day, seven days a week and the revenues of our partners prove just that.”
Kohls reported that the real-time reservations processed in 2006 through the ReservationFriend booking engine increased 128 percent over 2005. There are over 750 campgrounds nationwide currently using the system.
The four parks in the $100,000 club include Yosemite Pines RV Resort, Calif.; Flying Flags, Calif.; and Camp Sandusky, Ohio. Newport Dunes Waterfront Resort, Calif., nearly topped $200,000. Those reaching $50,000 include Apache Family Campground, S.C.; Baraboo Hills Campground, Wis.; Campfire Lodgings, N.C.; Rivers Creek, N.C.; and Chalk Bluff Park, Texas.
Newport Dunes has found much value in using the system, according to the resort’s president, Mike Gelfand. “ReservationFriend has brought us new business. From what we can tell, 80 to 90 percent of online bookings are new business that we wouldn’t have had otherwise.”
Gelfand explained that when they started using ReservationFriend, they made only a small portion of their campsites available to online users. “We found that those sites were quickly filling up, so we continue to make more and more available through the system. We like the basic model that their product represents so much that we are planning to invest in their front office system when it is available. Then we will be using Friend for 100 percent of our reservation process.”
